Pauler's Dilemma.

Rosie here, talking from the heart.

I never thought I'd be defending Pauler Dean.  But here I am, putting my ass on the line for her.

Paula Deen has been in the news lately.  For racially insensitive slurs.

Here's Link #1.

Here's Link #2.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the lawsuit here.  Who incurred damage?   Has anyone been hurt by whatever Paula may or may not have said?

The Food Network caved in on Politically Correctness today.  What a pig.

Pauler Dean was the Food Network's Cash Cow.  Their Bread and Buttah.

And they do this to her?

Asswipes.

Dislike my views if you want, but Pauler deserved better.

This woman has the right to say anything she wants.
Paula never intended to insult anyone.

For Food Network to dump her
shows a complete lack of ova and balls.

Step up to the plate Food Nutwork.
Support Paula!

And I love how they call it "the 'N' word."

Please, get real.
Call a spade a spade.

Suck up to the plate.

All I got to say is that I'm gonna be really pissed off if I have to ban Food Network for their dropping the ball on Pauler. Pauler deserved better, Food Network. You suck, but we all knew that.

I agree with your take on this, Rosie. The pile-on on TWOP and other sites is awful (with regard to Paula). Some folks even think that Jamie and Bobby should be dropped from FN. Seriously? Paula's problem is that she's just not very smart socially. She's a savvy businesswoman for sure, but she thinks she's charming and cute (ewwwww) and funny and sexy. None of those things is true. Shame on FN to cave in to the folks who love to clutch their pearls.

Also, her lawyers certainly didn't prep her very well for her appearance in court. It's a tough spot to be in and few of us would be very articulate. I am born and raised in Calif, and if I had to swear that I never said the N-word I would perjure myself. I am a bit older than Paula but I am ashamed to admit that years and years ago it came out of my mouth...rarely, but it did.

Well, NMOAC, at least I'm pan-discriminatory. I can offend just about anyone across the board. And if someone says they've never told a Jew joke, a Polack joke, or a redneck joke, then they're lying.
I hate politically correctness. It's bull shit.

"Political Correctness"

"Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

Sing it, sister. Entirely too much has been made over a word she said decades ago and an idea she had but didn't follow through on.

By the way, you are not the only one who feels that FN failed Pauler: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/21/food-network-facebook_n_3480903.html?1371854886&utm_hp_ref=black-voices&icid=maing-grid7|main5|dl4|sec3_lnk1%26pLid%3D334186

Totally agree! I don't particularly care for Pauler and her trashiness, but think Food Network has made a mistake.

Lord, deliver us from political correctness!

It is only being removed from the lexicon available to WASPS. Meanwhile in the hood, it is it is a daily accolade, and proudly boom boxed out the window. Mark Furman feels your pain Paula.

One of my favorite comments from your link, Marilyn:

Jeremy Martin Who knew the key demographic for the food network was racist douchebags?

Did you even read the articles you link? She was not fired for just the deposition, but the totality of the situation. Admitting to using the N word with an "of course," allegedly running businesses that condone sexual and racial harassment, and suggesting a reception served by a specific racial group. All of this combined made her someone that any network would want to pull away from.

You may call it political correctness, but this has nothing to do with politics. This has to do with raising the bar on how we treat people.

Wow, I came here from the OBX news site, which recommended your blog. I was hoping for some nice recipes, but then found a racist rant masked in making fun of political correctness. Nice job calling those that don't agree with you names such as pigs and asswipes. Stay classy.

Anonys #1 and #2, I don't agree with what Paula said nor do I condone her actions. As for Bubba, I think he's objectionable too, but if he wants to sit in his office in his restaurant and look at porn, then so be it. He can do it.

I certainly don't condone sexual or racial harassment, and I, myself, have been at the receiving end. I took care of the situation myself. I spoke up to the harasser and took care of it. I didn't sue him or the company I worked for.

Who aims to gain anything in this lawsuit? Besides the lawyers.

I try to pick my battles, and this is one I wouldn't have picked.

Thank you for commenting.

Now that I've been cogitating over this mess, I will say I won't be missing Ms. Deen. But I won't remember her for her racial slurs. There are so many other memorable things.

I will remember her for her dietary and diabetic bombs - her fried lasagna, her fried mac 'n' cheese, her fried buttah, her buttahbuttaheverywhere, her bacon hamburgers encased in Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

I will remember how, at one time, she used to be "normal" on the Food Network, then she succumbed to the FN ether or started drinking their Kool Aid, or both, and let them morph her into a caricature of her former self. Bigger! Louder!

I remember her amazingly crass program, Paula's Party. I remember her unfortunate sexual innuendos she would make to the male audience members and frequently in front of her sons.

I remember her for her inappropriate behavior towards Jimmy Carter while Mrs. Carter was sitting right there.

I will remember her for kneading her meatloaf with those gawdy diamond rings on and I would shudder when thinking about the bacteria growing inside.

I will remember her for her incessant cackling, only hoping she'd lay a damn egg and STF up.

That's what I remember Paula for.

I remember her for white trashiness and this present situation only sealed the deal.

I also believe in due process.
I'm giving Pauler the benefit of the doubt, in spite of herself. I don't think she should have been axed for this. Wait until you have something concrete. Food Network. Stand behind the brand you created. I think you owe Paula that much. You KNEW what you were getting and you promoted the hell out of it.
