Ketchie Creek Bakery And Cafe In Mocksville, NC.

Mocksville
Asheboro, NC to Mocksville, NC. Thursday morning, Mr. Hawthorne and I headed off for more food on our way to Asheville. For lunch, I wanted to hit Morganton's The Grind Cafe, for their Apollo Wrap, another must-have from Our State magazine. While thumbing through my trusty Our State magazine, I noticed a bakery in Mocksville right along our way - Ketchie Creek Bakery and Cafe 844 Valley Road Mocksville, NC 27028 336-751-9147 I knew this was going to warrant a stop. The must-have from Ketchie Creek, according to Our State mag, was their Five Flavor Pound Cake - with lemon, almond, coconut, vanilla, and rum. That would be five of my favorite flavors. I walked into Ketchie Creek Bakery and was immediately enveloped by delicious aromas. There was all manner of baked goods, all homemade - desserts, cakes, pastries, muffins, scones, cookies, brownies and bars, cheesecakes, flans, fruit pizzas, pies, both sweet and savory, cream horns, and petit fours, cupcakes, eclairs - you name it. In addition to the heavenly sweets, they also serve deli sandwiches and wraps, salads with vidalia onion, burgundy poppy seed, Caesar, raspberry vinaigrette, honey mustard, ranch, Italian, tomato basil, and bleu cheese dressings, and more salads - cauliflower ranch, cucumber, broccoli, pasta salad of the day, and German potato salad. I wanted one of everything. I got a slice of the Five-Flavor Pound Cake and Mr. Hawthorne picked out an eclair and a cream horn.
There's quite a variety of cakes: triple chocolate, pink lemonade, carrot, red velvet, Italian cream, German chocolate, chocolate raspberry, peanut butter chocolate, double fudge mound, fresh pineapple, fresh coconut, and the five flavor pound cake.
And they're all beautiful.
Nice, clean, airy, open atmosphere.
As soon as we got in the car,
we had to taste the cream horn and the eclair.
These were slightly orgasmic.
Light and flaky.
And yes, they taste like they look. Only a gazillion times better.
The pound cake was not a conventional pound cake texture wise. It was much lighter. And like I said, it had five of my favorite flavors - lemon, almond, coconut, vanilla, and rum.
I think we exhibited a supreme amount of self-control. I wanted one of everything.

As someone who lives in Mocksville, I have to say that their cream horns are one of the best things I have ever tasted! My family's favorite cake from there would have to be the chocolate pound cake with chocolate icing...so delicous! I have to bring it to all family get togethers. They are also well known for their pink lemonade cake, cheese straws and their cream cheese brownies. You really can't go wrong with anything here! Make sure you try the black pepper sandwich w/havarti cheese and ligonberry mayo. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

That should say, black pepper turkey sandwich. Not sure I would want an entire sandwich of black pepper!
