Rosie's Moonflower.

Every evening,
I go out and watch my moonflowers open up.
Rosie leads a simple life
and she's easily amused.

I have my video set on time lapse to shoot every 30 seconds.

I picked one stubborn little bloom and waited,
watching a dozen other blooms open up elsewhere.

Hummingbird vine flower peeping out from behind leaf.

Moon plant.
Not the vine, but a large bush.

 Water hyacinth.

 See the moth?
He'd been feeding on every bloom except the one I was shooting.

Finally he settled on my bloom.
Time lapse didn't get him.

Will try again tonight.

I believe this is some type of hawk moth.
Perhaps a hummingbird hawk moth.
Macroglossum stellatarum.

Heh, I think that blossom and the camera were having a staring match. I wonder who won?

Blossom won.

Tammy, I'd be more than happy to send you some moonflower seeds when I harvest them.

Oh Rosie how kind of you! :) I would love that.

I'm not sure if NY has the right climate for moonflowers?

Tammy, send me your address and I'll send you seeds. I soak them overnight then plant them in small pots to germinate and then transplant when they've got some growth to them.

I don't see why they wouldn't grown in NY. You'll never know if you don't try.

Thank you, Rosie! I have taken a note of your tips...in the meantime I've been reading up on the Moonflower.

I sent you an email, but I'm not sure if it went through...either way, let me know! :)
