Just thought I'd show you what
Mr. Hawthorne made for supper last night.
Here's his tortilla,
topped with chorizo and hamburger meat
seasoned with cumin,
then topped with salsa he made,
corn and beans I made the other day,
my Velvet Cheese Sauce,
and lettuce.
Oh, I believe there was also a partial packet
of taco sauce seasoning involved.
Yes, he Sandra Lee'd it.
Mr. Hawthorne buys the packaged taco dinners.
You just add the meat.
The boxed mix contains the taco shells (which went stale),
the spice mixture, which will easily season two pounds of meat,
and the taco sauce package, basically in a vacuum pack.
The whole taco package dinner was $1.00 on sale,
versus $2.99 - $3.50 normally.
Ingredients:
garlic
Gray Poupon Dijon
Lea & Perrins
Balsamic Vinegar
Cider vinegar
Olive oil
salt and pepper
I minced the garlic cloves,
added about a tablespoon of Dijon,
about a tablespoon each of balsamic vinegar and cider vinegar,
salt and pepper, then whisked in the olive oil to make a nice emulsion.
Here are our lovely salads.
We had a freeze warning for last night
so I went out and picked my lettuces, spinach, and radishes.
Today, I added sliced cucumbers, sliced carrots,
red onions, sesame sticks,
and toasted almonds.
Here are our place settings, with the oh-so-stylish
paper towels featuring the designs of Jennifer Brinley.
We had bought New York strips on sale the other day.
Recommendation:
Buy the steaks with the fat swirls - the marbling -in them.
Much more juicy.
Mr. Hawthorne perfectly cooked them
along with button mushrooms and brussels sprouts.
I baked the potatoes,
all by myself.
And added some creme fraiche to the taters.
A delicious meal.
And no, I didn't eat the whole thing.
I have enough meat leftover for a few more meals.
