Rosie Makes An Ice Cream Cake For Mama Hawthorne On Her 95th Birthday.

Rosie's going to give you a wonderful recipe for a delicious ice cream cake dessert. I made this for Mama Hawthorne's birthday.
My ingredients: 2 cups firmly packed brown sugar 2/3 cup flour 2 eggs 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 cup chopped pecans
Mix all ingredients together.
This will be a very thick batter.
Spoon the mixture into a buttered 9 x 13 baking dish.
You need to use your hand to press it out evenly.
Bake for 25 minutes in a pre-heated 350 degree oven. Oooh. Look how it rose! Don't bother with the toothpick test. It's supposed to be gooey. Let cool completely.
I chilled both my bowl and my beaters (the chilling helps the cream whip better), then whipped up a pint of whipping cream along with a little sugar (maybe 2 - 3 tablespoons) and a tablespoon of vanilla.
When the cake is cooled, crumble it into pieces and ...
... fold them into the whipped cream.
Spread into a clean 9 x 13 dish and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving.
Here's the shot I took at home. When I served the cake to Mama Hawthorne, I put a candle on it and Sister Hawthorne wanted me to light it. Errr ... Sister Hawthorne, I don't think that's advisable what with the oxygen tank and all. Sister would have blown us all to Kingdom Come with one strike of a match. Mama Hawthorne thought that was pretty funny.

In the 2nd picture down, it looks like a bit of butter, yet butter is not mentioned in the ingredients. You holding out on us?

Sistah - isn't that baking soda -not baking powder?

Yes, Sistah. I meant baking sodah, not powdah.
Thank you.
