Sunday Morning Breakfast With The Hawthornes.

Welcome to our Sunday morning breakfast. Mr. Hawthorne brought home a loaf of bakery bread yesterday, of which I used part to make croutons for our Caesar salad. When I got up this morning and was weighing my options for breakfast, I decided on French toast, using the rest of that loaf. But French toast with a twist. I still have ricotta in the fridge from when I made my Lasagna Roll Ups and the Oysters Hawthorne so I'm still trying to think of ways to use that too. The ricotta will be going into my stuffed French toast. Turned out to be a good choice.
My mise: butter thick slices of bread eggs heavy cream vanilla ricotta cheese cream cheese homemade strawberry jam Slice the bread about 1 - 1 1/2 inches thick. Make a slit down the side of the slices. Mix together one part ricotta cheese, 1 part cream cheese, and one part strawberry or whatever fruit jam you'd like. Stuff bread slices with ricotta mixture. In another bowl, whisk eggs, cream, and vanilla. Let the bread soak up the goodness, turning your little sponges. Melt butter in skillet over low heat. Add in bread and let cook, slowly, lightly browning the bottom first. Turn over and brown the top, then the sides. Serve with maple syrup and powdered sugar.
I used heaping spoonfuls of the ricotta, the cream cheese, and strawberry jam.
Mix and mash. Cut a slit down the length of the bread ... ... and stuff in the ricotta mixture. Ready for the bath.
Three eggs.
Whisk away.
Add in about 1/4 - 1/3 cup heavy cream I don't measure.
And a good teaspoon of vanilla.
Soak on all sides, letting the bread soak up the egg mixture.
Saute all over in butter over low heat, until each side is nicely browned.
About this time, the aromas had wafted over to Mr. Hawthorne's bedroom and he'd wandered into the kitchen, ready to eat. Kitchen is smelling pretty good now.
A little maple syrup.
A dusting of powdered sugar.
And, ladies and gentlemen, we have breakfast.
What a lovely way to start off the day.

Mm, that does look good. We just might have to make that from the bread I have left-over after making eggs benedict.
