The Verdict Is In.

We had some of the borscht today and it was quite good. Very refreshing. And the flavors really worked well together. Mr. Hawthorne is even taking some to work with him tomorrow. He's calling it his Pepto-Bismol Soup. Once you get past the PINK, it's quite good. Heh. That reminds me of a funny joke. But since my Mommie reads my blog, I won't tell it. Pepto-Bismol. My Borscht.

  1. It looks good, but I have never eaten a beet before, so I can't comment on anything but the color, which is delightful.

  2. I'm not a fan of pink food, and the delicious coleslaw I made the other day, which I adapted from your blog recipe, turned a lovely shade of pink after sitting for a day in the fridge ( I used some purple cabbage). It still tastes great, but I'm having a hard time getting past the color.
I also have a hard time with blue foods. My mother once colored our milk blue for April Fool's Day, and my brother actually started crying when he poured it from the pitcher onto his Life cereal (the fancy pitcher should have been a MAJOR clue, since she never used it).

  3. Yeah, I have problems with pink and blue food. Like blue potatoes and blue corn and blue corn chips. Several years ago, they came out with GREEN ketchup. I immediately bought it and made the kids hash browns for breakfast. With GREEN ketchup. It made quite a hit.

  4. xmaskatie, Was it Ralphie who cried?
Cause I think David would be OK with blue milk. Actually, I think David would embrace blue milk.

  5. Bingo! Ralph was NOT happy that morning. I think our dear mother also tried green milk one St. Patty's Day. Again, not a big hit, but props to her for trying.
