OK, I have to fill out a form for the entry to
the Crock Pot Cook Off
and I'm taking this contest seriously.
I want to win.
I just won the Pomegranate contest
and now I have a taste of blood
and I'm ready for more.
The entry form has to be turned into
the Ace Hardware in Manteo tomorrow,
which works out fine,
since Mr. Hawthorne and I and Glowria
are going to another cooking contest
down there tomorrow.
But, the entry form calls for a name for my dish.
I've thought about Bambi Chili,
but as others mentioned,
that would be off putting.
Then the closest I came was Fusion Chili:
I was thinking about the fusion in each type of chili -
in the first chili - the fusion with the beef and the deer meat (sausage and rump roast) and bacon and the peppers and herbs -
in the second chili - the fusion with the two beef meats and the pancetta and the prosciutto and the peppers and herbs -
and the final melding - when I put the two together.
And the fusion of my accoutrements- the shredded cheddar, the fusion of the seasonings and the tortillas, the fusion of the corn salsa, the fusion of the creme fraiche with lime juice and zest and jalapeno and sliced green onion and cilantro.
But Fusion Chili is kind of too Avant-garde
and perhaps off-putting.
That all was in an email I sent to Sara of Sara's Kitchen.
Then finally, Marilyn, of Foodies Untie
sent me an email with her suggestion:
"Hmm, Devilish Chili? (as in Kill Devil Hills?) "
Well, Marilyn ...
DINGDINGDINGDINGDING!!!!!!
It's gonna be KILL DEVIL CHILI !!!
Perfect.
Simple.
Succinct.
On the mark.
Thanks, Mar.
I like it!
