Monday Morning. Waiting.

Ahh. Tis a lovely Monday morning, although a tad hot for my tastes. I'm waiting for the kitchen cabinet guys to show up and finish installing the cabinet doors and drawers. Then I can start restocking everything, and get my daughter's room cleaned out, the carpet pulled up, the walls painted, and tiger wood hard wood floors installed in her room. By the way, Miss Hawthorne came home this weekend and loves the changes. Yay!!

I am also waiting for the granite guys to show up again to bring the replacement for the broken hearth granite. If I'm here, Dixie at least will allow them in. She won't like it, but she'll do it.

Now, I'm going to do a bit of back tracking. Here are the abalone accent tiles up against the tiles I had picked out for the backsplash, next to samples of the cherry cabinet wood and the maple flooring. I looked at this crap last night and said to myself, "Self, what the hell were you thinking? Were you on drugs or something when you picked out the tiles?" (Answer: yes. Damn pain pills.) Anyways, the mesh sheet tiles are going back to Home Depot as soon as I can get there. And I'm going back to the kitchen shop to pick out something else. Don't know exactly what, but do know I'll know it when I see it. I have something in mind. We'll just have to wait and see.

I know everyone is clamoring to know what the Hawthornes had for breakfast this morning, so here it is. At the top, is my egg "poached" in the microwave (See the little white poacher next to the plate?) with cheddar cheese on top nestled on a piece of whole wheat toast with butter and sourwood honey. Golly, I love that honey. You haven't had honey until you've had sourwood. Trust me on this. Mr. Hawthorne gets it when he goes home to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Only a very few places you can find this stuff.

Next is an unappetizing-looking, although good-tasting phyllo dough concoction I made. I sauteed some ground sausage and some hot Italian sausage, then added mushrooms, chopped, drained spinach, and a cup of grated parmesan cheese. I brushed some butter on sheets of phyllo dough, then added the spinach/sausage mixture, rolled it up, added some Swiss cheese slices on top and POPped it INto the toaster oven, until nice and brown. It wasn't bad. I just hate frozen, boxed spinach though. Note to self : Plant spinach in garden this week.

Can I just say I'm hating the builder next door? I can get along with just about anybody if you simply RESPECT MY SPACE. Apparently these workmen do not do this. Numerous times I've had to go out and ask them to move a truck that is blocking my driveway or my next door lot where everybody parks. This is my cul-de-sac this morning. The truck is partially blocking my driveway. The van is blocking my lot. I am not happy with these circumstances.

This is the guy delivering my new decking material. It's a composite material made from wood fibers and resins. It doesn't need painting, staining, or sealing and is splinter-free, warp-free, and is weather- and rot-resistant. And comes with a 25-year warranty.

Mr. Hawthorne took the plastic off of the hood last night. It sure is purty. I like the shiny. Kitchen shop just called. Cabinet installers and appliances will be here tomorrow morning at 8 AM WHOOT!

Sadly, this is my daughter's room. She slept on the living room couch when she came home this weekend.

Quick. Where's the big jar of garlic powder?

Where's the top to my mini-processor?

Where's my Cheez-It?

This is the mess in the rest of the house.

I am so sick of living like this. Today is Week 6 - Day 1.
