Rosie and Mr. H. Have an Adventure.

Mr. Hawthorne and I left Friday morning for the Western part of the state. We got a bit of a late start (11:30). I had new tires put on my truck the day before (a 3-hour wait for that) then an alignment that afternoon. Apparently they screwed up the alignment and I had to go back the next morning and wait another 2 hours for them to correct it.

Finally got away and made it as far as Hickory, NC, where we stayed the night.
Had a pretty decent supper at a China Buffet there. Spent the night at a Hampton Inn for $80. The bed was quite comfy. Each bed had 4 extremely comfortable pillows and a squishy, puffy comforter. Best bed I've ever had in a hotel. However, I still couldn't get to sleep because of Mr. Hawthorne's snoring. I had the pillows over my ears, but they didn't help. His snores could wake up the dead. I was not happy. 3:00 am and I'm still awake. Finally, I did get to sleep. He asked me the next day who I yelled at to "Get the Hell out! " while I was sleeping. That was you, Niece R. You apparently tried to break INto my bedroom at home.

The next morning, we left for Asheville, NC and Biltmore Estate, the palatial mansion of the Vanderbilts, built in the late 1800's. This place is spectacular: four acres of floor space, 250 rooms, 43 bathrooms, 65 fireplaces, priceless furnishings and artwork, a 100,000 acre forest, a 250 acre wooded park, and five gardens.

Here I am in front of Biltmore House.

This is a view of the house from the back porch.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to take any pictures inside.

These are the views from the back porch. Not too shabby.
