Giada, Dogwood, and Daughter Hawthorne
are visiting for a couple of days.
Giada came into my bedroom, as usual, at 6:43 AM,
to get my sorry ass out of bed
and take her for a run through the neighborhood.
I obliged.
It was quite painful though.
Even with heavy gloves on,
my Raynaud's kicked in immediately.
Got back home in about 45 minutes
and checked the mailbox
since I forgot to on Saturday.
I found a plain hand-written envelope.
It was a bill.
Not just any bill.
A bill from my vet.
From September 15, 2011.
Four months after the fact.
Date Description Amount
09/15/2011 Exam - Routine Exam 49.00
09/15/2011 Misc* 25.00
09/15/2011 Euthanasia - Large Dog 70.00
Invoice Total 144.00
*Misc - abdominal tap and tube
Gut punch.
As in I can't breathe.
Oh please, this was no routine exam.
Tell me, what the hell was routine!??!
The Miscellaneous part,
for Dixie,
and for me,
was the most visceral.
Sorry, I tend to over-punctuate when mad and hurt.
I'm reading this and reliving everything.
It made it real all over again.
On the bright side,
this week can only get better.
Rosie I am so sorry. That was incredibly insincere on your vet's part. I can't believe they would even put something like that!!! Sending prayers/positive thoughts your way. I know how hard it is to lose a fur baby!
ReplyDeleteAww crap. WTF waiting this long to bill you? And just when you were starting to have happy tears.
ReplyDeleteSorry.
I know that "sorry" doesn't begin to cut it...thinking of you ((hugs))
ReplyDeleteAwwwww! Sincerely
ReplyDeleteKarol Ann, "Anony," Lori, and Woodduck, I thank you all.
ReplyDelete(Hugs), Rosie. And Dixie's smiling down from Heaven at you. Bet she even has her shades on.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mar.
ReplyDeleteI kept looking back for her.
Old habits die hard.
She's there, Rosie, she's there.
ReplyDeleteThat vet is an asswipe.
