Outer Banks Taste of the Beach.

Because of my numerous fruitless trips to Manteo to attend classes that had been cancelled and a bit of bitching on my part to people in charge of things, I ended up with 2 free tickets to the
Outer Banks Taste of the Beach, held at Kelly's Restaurant.

I shot a few pictures of the food for you and I tried talking to the chefs and getting descriptions of their food and writing it down, but after the first few tables of doing that, it wasn't working. It's hard to shoot pictures, eat, write notes in the air, and hold a glass of wine at the same time.

Remember, click on the pics to enlarge.

First, we have shrimp with BBQ sauce on a bed of grits with white cheddar and smoked shitake mushrooms with a sprinkling of scallions.

Next table had shrimp on a BBQ sauce on Saltines with a bit of horseradish on top.
Not much thought went into that one.

One can never go wrong with raw oysters.

I'm trying to decipher my illegible notes and what we have here are Crab Meat Stuffed Gruyere Appetizers with a roasted red pepper aioli and lime cilantro sour cream.
I might have to make my own version of this.

Now, here's where my system broke down. I lost my pencil so I couldn't really do my roving reporter shtick.
Ummm ... what is this?

Why, I believe it's a Caribbean Style Crab Cake.

OK, my system totally broke down. No thoughtful signs describing the food here. I think this was a crab cake with some kind of sauce over maybe potatoes. The pink? Got no clue.
And it looks like there might be some kind of salsa. Other than that, I have no idea.

At this point, Mr. Hawthorne is rushing me,
so I'm just phoning it in, folks.

Sit back, and enjoy the pictures.

Lots of people there.
And some of the wine people were kind of stingy.
Nothing truly outstanding.
Glad the tickets were free.

Liverwurst on baked crustini? That goes with the shrimp on cocktail sauce on a saltine, I think.

Some of those desserts look good - a lot of chocolate! (organic carrots with chocolate. Hmm.. I have to think about that taste, though) Did you taste the Kicked Up Pineapple or Grilled Tropical Papaya?

Waaah! I want fresh seafood. Oh, well, Cambridge & Boston a couple of weeks...

Yeah, that's what I thought about the liverwurst. Liverwurst? Yuck. The kicked up pineapple was good. Didn't try the papaya. Mr. H was being a bitch and rushing me through, else I would have been more complete about everything.
