Short Order Cook Rosie.

Yesterday afternoon, when Mr. Hawthorne and I were shucking oysters and I was making toppings for oyster grilling, Youngest Hawthorne called.
He had just turned off onto the road to our little island and wanted food.
Could I please have something ready for him?
In 5 minutes, no less.

Sure, I said.

First, I fried up two tortilla shells and shaped them like tacos.

Remember the chicken
I made last week?

Well, I had some left over.
I took it and chopped it up.
Sauteed it and added some cumin.

I added some cheese and shredded lettuce
and I Semi-Ho'd it by adding some taco sauce out of a package.

I Semi-redeemed myself by giving Youngest Hawthorne some of my
pineapple/mango/habanero sauce
that I made up myself.

He really liked this.

And it was all done under FIVE MINUTES!

Damn. Can you have something ready for me in five minutes?? And I've tried to do my own taco shells like that before but only succeeded in making a mess.

Dear mrsvjw,

Just tell me when you'll be here and I'll have something ready and waiting for you.

BTW, how you do those tortilla shells is to fry the first side, then turn over and hold bended in half with tongs and fry half the other side at a time.

Love,
Rosie

Yeah... they did it on America's Test Kitchen once and even seeing them do it, and watching it again on the Tivo, I still couldn't get it right. I think I ended up just going for "tostadas" rather than tacos that night!
