Lunch In Manteo.

Mr. Hawthorne needed to go to Manteo the other day, so we decided to have lunch at
Stripers Bar and Grille.
Chef Tom Lozupone had officiated at one of our cooking classes
(Scroll way down when you click on that link.) and we really liked his food.

We got to pick where we wanted to sit, so we chose the screened in porch overlooking the marina.

Remember my lemon test for restaurants?
This one passed with flying lemons.
As Mr. Hawthorne is fond of saying, "She likes a bit of tea with her lemon."

Count 'em.
FIVE pieces of lemon.

It took me over 30 years of dining out at restaurants to stop asking for "extra lemon, please."
Usually, the waitperson would ignore my request for lemon. Sometimes, he/she would bring one anorexic, emaciated wedge of lemon which might yield one drop of juice. Rarely, would I get 2 pieces of lemon. And I would always ask them to go back and bring me "some more lemon, please." Finally, after 30 plus years of being disappointed with my lemon servings, I had an epiphany. "Unsweetened ice tea with FIVE PIECES OF LEMON PLEASE."
And, I get my extra lemon.
If you want something, you have to be explicit and leave no room for doubt.

Mr. Hawthorne and I started out with a lovely side salad of mixed baby greens with
bleu cheese dressing.

I ordered tuna, medium rare. It was served with asparagus, rice with corn, red peppers, and orzo, a homemade roll with butter, and two sauces for the tuna - a wasabi sauce and a mustard/soy sauce. This was excellent.

Mr. Hawthorne ordered soup and sandwich. The soup was a lobster bisque which is to die for. The chef had made this for us at the cooking class and it's absolutely delicious.
The sandwich was grilled tuna salad.
Mr. Hawthorne didn't let me have any, so I imagine it was pretty good.

And here's our view.

Quite an enjoyable meal.
