Mr. & Mrs. Hawthorne Cook Lunch Together.

Mr. H. and I were trying to figure out what to eat for lunch today.
Leftovers and frozen items will be prominently featured.
Mr. Hawthorne decided to make Pork Fried Rice and I decided to complement his dish with a Wonton Soup of sorts.

First, Mr. Hawthorne thinly sliced carrots, celery,
and a frozen pork loin.

Next, he sauteed the celery and carrots.

Added in some frozen peas.
Canned peas are an abomination.

Next the pork.

A bit of soy sauce.
Mr. Hawthorne also added a bit of sesame oil.
Be careful. A little goes a loooong way.

And finally the leftover rice.

Oooh. Action shot.

Mr. H. used a not-so-non-stick pan so the rice would kinda stick.
The whole idea is to get it hot enough so the rice almost caramelizes and he scrapes up the goodie bits on the bottom of the pan. The rice goes from fluffy white to brownish.

After the rice is brownish, Mr. H. adds a beaten egg to the mix.

And cooks a bit more.

This was good. Very good.

Now, in the meantime, I'm making my Wonton Soup.

I had frozen chicken consomme which I thawed out.

I also had frozen stuffed wontons.
I originally made pot stickers with these, which is another recipe I must share, but I had these frozen leftovers and added them to the soup. The stuffing is ground pork, shrimp, minced scallions, garlic, ginger, and Tamari Sauce.

Next I added in some celery, snow peas, and green peas.
But I can't see any green peas here.

Ah, here are the green peas.
But now, the celery is gone.
I'm confused.

Serve with sliced green onions.
Too bad you can't smell this.

This truly hit the spot.

Amen, sister! Canned 'green' peas (think grey!) should be banned from the planet.
