Super Simple Barbeque, Courtesy Of Mr. Hawthorne.

Mr. Hawthorne decided to make his world famous barbeque last night. Before he started, he turned to me and said, "Well aren't you going to take pictures?"
Now this is a man who rarely reads my blog, yet he was chomping at the bit to be in my blog.

I get my camera out, and he very patiently and slowly starts his narration of each and every step, as if he's talking to an extremely dull 3 year old.

If I didn't know better, I'd think he was auditioning for The Next Food Network Star.
Work it, Mr. Hawthorne!

He started out with Pork Country Style Ribs which we bought on sale the other day for $0.95 a pound. And yes, we stocked up the freezer with several packages.

Now, I'll let you in on Mr. Hawthorne's secret ingredient:

Stubb's Hickory Liquid Smoke.
He added a liberal amount of this to a pan of water, along with salt and pepper.

Next, he trimmed off the fat.

Don't you just hate it when your butcher does this?
All this fat was hidden on the bottom of the package.
No wonder it was 95 cents.
Can't say that I'm at all surprised.
Typical of Food Lion.

Mr. Hawthorne very carefully explained to me that he doesn't cut out the bone since that's how he tells when the meat is done cooking. It falls off the bone.
He brought the water to a simmer, covered it, then went on to make his barbeque sauce.

Cider vinegar.

Worcestershire sauce and some Hickory Liquid Smoke.

Texas Pete.

Molasses.

Dark corn syrup.

And finally, some brown sugar.

After about 1 1/2 hours of simmering, the meat is falling off the bone.

Mr. Hawthorne lets it cool a bit, then shreds the pork.

Finally, he adds his homemade barbeque sauce.

No grilling involved.

My boys love this.

Very tasty.

And with Mr. Hawthorne's ongoing commentary, you would have thought I was on the set of the Food Channel.
