I know you've all been sitting on the edges of your seats just dying to know what
The Hawthornes had for dinner last night.
Well, you're in for a real treat, folks.
Your wait is over.
Mr. Hawthorne had recently been to visit his Mommie
and came back raving about the best corn he'd ever had.
First, he scraped the kernels off the cob.
Then he fried up some bacon.
When he got a few goody bits in the bottom of the pan,
he added water and scraped them up.
And continued doing this while the bacon cooked.
Whoot! Steam.
You know how I love my steamy shots.
Then he added some of that Pillsbury Shake & Blend flour in the canister.
(You can see it in the background.)
Continue to scrape up bits.
Remove bacon from skillet.
Add some more water, scraping.
Then add in the corn.
More flour.
More water.
Crumble up the bacon and add that back in.
And the corn is done.
Now, it was my turn to start on the tuna.
Just salt and pepper is all you need.
Place tuna steaks in a hot skillet with butter and olive oil.
Medium low heat.
I like my tuna rare to medium rare,
so I sear about 2-3 minutes each side and the tuna is ready.
I'm not sure if you could make corn any better.
That being said, I think next time I make this I might use cream instead of water.
Here's our dinner.
The little ramekin in back contains melted butter, lemon juice, and capers.
Pour butter/lemon/caper over top of tuna.
The tuna was delicious, with almost a beefy-like flavor.
The butter sauce is the perfect accompaniment to the tuna,
with the capers giving it a nice pop.
The corn was the best I've ever had.
Another wonderful meal.
Now I'm hungry. I think cream would be a nice addition to the corn dish.
