Rosie's Homemade Ice Cream.

Here's my brand new Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker that I'm just jonesin' to use.
And here are the ingredients for my vanilla ice cream for Youngest Hawthorne's birthday dessert: whole milk heavy cream sugar 3 jumbo eggs 4 egg yolks vanilla bean vanilla extract
Here's one 5-6 inch vanilla bean. Approximately $4.50. Nothin's too good for my boy.
Split the pod lengthwise and scrape out the seeds.
Add the beans and the seeds to 2 1/3 cups each whole milk and heavy cream. Bring the mixture to a slow boil over medium heat, then reduce to low, and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Combine 3 jumbo eggs and 4 egg yolks.
Add in 1 1/8 cups sugar. Beat until the mixture is thick, smooth, and pale yellow.
Remove the vanilla beans from the milk/cream mixture and add about 1 cup of the hot mixture to the egg mixture, beating until thoroughly combined.
Then pour back into the hot milk/cream mixture.
Cook over medium heat until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
Add in 2 teaspoons of vanilla.
Here's the almost final product. I covered it with plastic wrap, with the wrap touching the mixture, then refrigerated it until cool throughout before putting it in the ice cream machine. Sad note here. I was in a hurry to get everything done. So I decided to put this in the downstairs freezer for 20 minutes. Then check on it and place in the fridge. I carefully set the timer for 20 minutes. When it went off, I scurried downstairs to check on the ice cream mixture. Ummm. Something was amiss. Now, the florescent lights just went off in my utility room the other day. Damn the ballasts. So, when I put the brimming bowl into the freezer, I couldn't see what I was doing. I thought I had put it securely on the shelf. Apparently not. I think I must have place it, unknowingly, on a bag of ice, and the hot bowl melted the ice, then the bowl shifted, and half the damn bowl that I'd worked on forever spilled down in the freezer. I was a bit unnerved when I discovered this. I believe I screamed. Perhaps curses were uttered. In fact, I'm sure they were. It was only 2 shelves from the bottom, and most of it pooled in the bottom of the freezer. I scraped and spooned up as much as I could, then Mr. Hawthorne came down to clean up the rest. Good Mr. Hawthorne. He knew I was UPSET.
Here's my brand new Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker I bought on Amazon, and got thirty bucks off since I signed on for yet another credit card offer. This makes about 10 credit cards I've been offered and accepted on Amazon, each with a $30 credit. I use them once, get my $30, and discard them.
View from the top.
After twenty-five minutes in the ice cream maker.
Ooooh. Ooooooh. Ice cream. Thick, rich, 'n delicious. It's a bit after 1 am and Little Hawthornelet just got home. He wanted some of my ice cream. Now he loves mint chocolate chip ice cream, so I poured some Creme de Menthe over top of the vanilla ice cream. And added some homemade chocolate sauce. Talk about GOOOOOOOD.
