Rosie Makes Fresh Orange Granita.

Daughter Hawthorne was recently in Florida
and she brought us back a half bushel of Florida oranges.
And guess what Rosie is making with oranges today.
If you guessed Fresh Orange Granita,
you would be correct.
 My basic ingredients:
 juice of 6 oranges
 1/2 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
juice of 1 lime
First make a simple syrup with the sugar and water.
Combine in small saucepan, bring to boil,
reduce to simmer until sugar dissolves, and cool.
Thoroughly mix orange juice, simple syrup, and lime juice.
Pour into 8 inch square baking dish.
Set in freezer.
Rake with a fork after about 30-40 minutes.
Every 30-40 minutes, come back in and rake the mixture.
Continue raking.

Every 30-40 minutes for 3-4 hours.
To serve, I spooned my orange granita into frozen orange shells,
topped it with Maraschino cherries and drizzled some cherry juice over top.
You know, I could have poured some tequila in the original mix.
That would have been even better.
I could get a brain freeze and damage brain cells all at the same time!
And as you know, I like to be efficient.
Rosie is ever the multi-tasker.

I've become quite a fan of granitas.
