Sugar Cookies.

Next up, Sugar Cookies. These are delicious.
My ingredients: 1 cup butter (2 sticks) 1 cup white sugar 1 cup powdered sugar 2 eggs, beaten 1 tsp salt 3/4 cup salad oil 1 tsp vanilla 4 cups plain flour + 4 TB (Sift before measuring.) 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp cream of tartar Do you really think that extra 4 tablespoons of flour makes a difference?
Cream butter, then add sugar.
Add powdered sugar.
Beat eggs with salt.
And add eggs to creamed mixture.
Add in oil.
And vanilla.
Finally add dry ingredients and mix well. Refrigerate dough until very cold. I made this dough and the snickerdoodle dough on Friday, and I'm just getting around to cooking both on Sunday. Roll the chilled dough into small balls and place on cookie sheets.
Mix colored sugars with nutmeg, and press balls down with the bottom of a glass dipped in the sugar and nutmeg mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. If, while balling, the dough gets sticky/tacky, rechill it. Else, when you bake it, it will sort of melt on the baking sheet. And just how do I know this? The hard way.
Remove from pans immediately and cool on racks. If you don't remove right away, or at least within a couple of minutes, they will crumble when you try to scrape them off. Again. How do I know this? Again. The hard way. Aren't they pretty? Oh ... and the addition of the nutmeg gives it a really nice ... je ne sais quoi. Just the thing that will make your cookie eaters go, "Mmmmm. What is that?" Except NOT. Unless you're Rachael Ray.
