Dinner chez the Hawthornes.

Oh my. Seems we have leftovers again.

This is the leftover cornbread from last night. Which was ripped through.

What to do? What to do?

I believe I will slice the cornbread into thin pieces.

In the meantime, I think I'll start some Saffron Rice, which I'm sure doesn't have any saffron in it since it's 89 cents a bag. But it's yeller. So that's good.

Now, here's what I have: some roses, some sliced cornbread, and some portabella mushrooms.

Did I mention that Mr. Hawthorne was making baby back ribs?

Oh, sorry.

Here, I'm sauteeing the 1 1/2 portabella mushrooms in olive oil and butter.

Oh man, those portabellas are looking good. I love the wafting steam.

Here are the delicious slices of leftover cornbread sauteeing in butter.

This is excellent for breakfast too. Saute the slices, then add maple surple. Delish!

So, here's my bottom portabella, with the 1/2 portabella cut into quarters, and the 4 slices laid ONto the shroom.

Then I added yellow rice, certainly not saffron, as it says it is, because this bag was 89 cents.

I made 4 quadrants with the shroom slices (as opposed to 3 or 5 or 6) and put in the rice and the sauteed cornbread.

Here's a close up of a delicious little amuse bouche.

Oh WOW, My "SAFFRON" rice looks ...
GREEN!!!

Wallah!! Mr. Hawthorne's Baby Back Ribs. Which are totally delicious.

This was a lovely meal. I used up leftovers in my fridge plus frozen ribs in my freezer.

And my roses are beautiful.
