Presents.

You know, it's a funny thing about presents.
I was just reading Marilyn's blog: www.foodiesuntie.blogspot.com . She and her husband celebrated their 25th anniversary today. Congratulations, orchidgal and Mr.P(icky). Mr. H. and I celebrated our 25th last May 12, a mere 7 months ago, right during our daughter's gradumacation from college- UNC-Chapel Hill. Anyways, Marilyn got a beautiful diamond ring, red roses, and a limo ride (courtesy of the jeweler's) to dinner.
Marilyn presented her husband with original watercolors.
Me, being me, would go for the watercolors in a heartbeat.
Now, for OUR anniversary, Mr. H. bought me a new bed. My mattress was a goner and so was my back. So he picked out the bed and I loved it. He can pick out FURNITURE for me and actually pick out stuff I like. He also gave me this little PDA thingie INto which I entered all my phone numbers and birthdays and anniveraries. I gave him the DVD set to the first three seasons of Boston Legal since I'd just turned him on to that program and knew he'd like it.
He did.
I'm pretty sure I gave him something else, but I can't remember and knowing my present-giving history, he either doesn't remember or doesn't want to remember.

Now, for me, go back a month, and Christmas is coming up.
Back when I was visiting my mother the end of November, in Danville, Virginia, I was staying at my dear friend "Maxine's" home. I noticed something in her guest bathroom. It was a soft, padded toilet seat. As I was sitting and thinking, I thought to myself, "Self, THIS is a PERFECT Christmas gift for Mr. Hawthorne." I just wanted to make his bathroom experience a pleasurable, comfortable time, since he does spend a considerable amount of time in there.

So, Rosie, with her self-defecating sense of humor,
bought Mr. Hawthorne this for his Christmas present:

Here's Mr. Hawthorne opening up his one and only Christmas present from me - a padded toilet seat with a palm tree on it.
I thought he'd really like it.
I think he mentioned something about hanging it on the wall and using it for a picture frame with You-Know-Who's picture in it. : (

Now, to top it all off, I must tell you Mr. Hawthorne gave me the Nikon Digital SLR I've been pining for. With the flash, and the tripod, and the 18-135mm Autofocus lens, and the 70-300mm Autofocus lens, and the flash, and the extra batteries, and the HI-Speed USB Card Reader, and the 4BG memory card, , and the case, and the ...
JUST EVERY THING.

Somehow, I just gotta make this better.

  1. Ah, I'm honored. And why wouldn't Mr H be pleased with your gift? You were just thinking of his creature comforts! Maybe you can take some nice pictures and get them printed and framed for him?
