Horror In Rosie's Garden!

I went outside this afternoon to shoot pictures
of my beautiful red and yellow
and lilac and pink glads blooming now.

And I discovered this travesty!

I turned my camera attention to my echinacea (coneflower)
and noticed black all over the top of the bloom.
I scraped the black off.
Apparently it was fecal material
from these nasty larvae.

Sunflower moth larvae.
ACCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!

I broke off the affected blooms (2)
and discarded them.
Appetizer for the fishes and crabs.

Ah, man, that sucks. My echinacea only looked good for about a week before the drought reared its ugly head and the flowers all turned black from lack of water. So much for native plants doing well in tough times.
