Today, I'll be making the ubiquitous holiday cookie - the Snickerdoodle.
If you want your house to smell like Christmas,
all you need to do is whup up a batch of these.
Good neighbor, Zippy, stopped by last night for a drink
when these were coming out of the oven
and commented that my house "really smells like Christmas."
1 cup Crisco
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
Heat oven to 400 degrees.
Cream Crisco and sugar.
Beat in eggs.
Sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
Stir flour mixture into creamed mixture.
Chill.
Roll into small balls.
Roll in 3 TB cinnamon and 3 TB sugar.
Place on ungreased baking sheet.
Bake at 400 8-10 minutes.
The last two minutes of baking, I give the pans a slap on the rack to deflate the cookies. This makes for a crisper cookie.
I use a melon baller to make uniform balls.
Roll balls in sugar and cinnamon.
Did you have to get your melon baller out of storage? (Very, very old Sandra Lee joke!)
ReplyDeleteVera, I got my melon baler out of storage. Attenshun to detail!
ReplyDeleteCrispy cookies? Sacrilege, I tell ya. Everyone knows that ooey-gooy, soft cookies are the bestest.
