I have a huge asparagus plant in my rose bed
thanks to a little bird,
I suppose,
who must have deposited a seed there
from my asparagus bed in the back.
And I let it stay there.
I know you think of asparagus
as a spring plant.
It is.
But when you have a splendidly strong,
healthy plant such as this one,
it is possible to coax another
harvest out of it in the fall.
All you have to do
(In October in Zone 8.)
is cut back all the foliage
down to the ground.
And wait.
I have always found it very interesting that the only perennial vegetable plants are asparagus and artichoke.
ReplyDeleteSadly, my family is not fond of those veggies, so growing the plants would be a waste.
