April 23, 2012. Prairie Dogs In Fruita, Colorado.

When we left the Chinese restaurant in Fruita, Colorado,
we noticed these little critters grazing in the grass.

There were about 5 or 6 of them.

I slowly approached
and the more timid ones ran into their burrow,
 back in the gravel.

What cute little critters!

As I approached,
all but 2 scurried back into their burrow.

I wonder what prairie dogs taste like.
I'm always looking for new protein.

I watched Anthony Bourdain eat guinea pigs in Machu Pichu
or somewhere in South America.
He said he could put them on his menu at Les Halles,
give 'em a fancy French name,
and charge $45 a pop for them
and people would scarf them down with gusto.

Say it in your thickest, fakest French accent -
Je voudrais les Chiens de Prwairwee s'il vous plais!
Avec les pommes frites.
Merci beaucoup!

Num yummy!

This was one brave little puppy.
He finally joined the others in their den,
which is right in front of him.
