It's that time of year again.
Soft shell crab season.
And Mr. Hawthorne is storing up soft shells.
Last year they were $2.00 - $2.25 - $2.50 -
$2.75 - $3.00 each.
This year, right now,
they're $2.00.
And the crabbers say there are fewer crabs
this year than last.
I remember 25 years ago,
I could get a dozen for $9.00.
Anyways, when the prices are this low,
we're going to buy.
You don't know how long this will last.
Crabs freeze well.
Mr. Hawthorne cuts out the gills,
aka the dead man,
and I prefer to clean out the mustard,
rinse them off,
and pat dry.
Wrap individually in plastic wrap,
place in freezer bags,
and freeze.
For those who want to learn how
to clean a soft shell,
here's how:
Here's a post I made last year,
back in June,
about soft shells.
Here's another post
about the crabbing process.
Enjoy.
And Happy Crabbing.
